We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dependable Night Nurse to join our team. The candidate will offer support to families by providing overnight care for newborns and infants 0 - 12 months. This position requires clinical experience in infant care, with a special focus on breastfeeding support, feeding, and soothing techniques. The Night Nurse will also assist with light household tasks related to infant care.
Anticipated Schedule: 8 hour shifts, 9 - 11pm until 6 - 7am.
Key Responsibilities:Breastfeeding Support: Provide expert assistance to mothers with optimal breastfeeding techniques, ensuring proper positioning and latch. Offer ongoing guidance and encouragement to promote successful and fulfilling breastfeeding experiences.
Umbilical Cord Care: Carefully monitor and care for the infant’s umbilical stump, ensuring it remains clean, dry, and free of infection until it naturally detaches, in accordance with clinical best practices.
Feeding Infants: Support and assist with bottle-feeding, including the preparation of bottles, feeding the infant, and ensuring the baby’s comfort and nourishment throughout the night.
Diapering and Hygiene: Perform regular diaper changes, ensuring that the infant remains clean, dry, and comfortable, while vigilantly checking for any signs of rashes or irritations.
Swaddling and Soothing: Utilize calming techniques, including swaddling, gentle rocking, and shushing, to help soothe and comfort newborns, promoting restful sleep and overall relaxation.
Infant-Related Household Assistance: Provide light assistance with baby-related household tasks, such as sterilizing bottles, preparing infant clothing, and maintaining a safe, organized, and nurturing environment for the baby.
Health Monitoring: Diligently observe and assess the infant’s health, identifying any signs of distress, discomfort, or changes in condition, and promptly communicating any concerns to the family.
Circumcision Care: Provide careful monitoring and appropriate care for circumcised infants, ensuring the area remains clean, dry, and free from infection while following proper aftercare instructions for optimal healing.
Parent Education and Emotional Support: Offer comprehensive guidance and emotional reassurance to parents, answering questions related to newborn care, and providing the support they need during the night shift to ensure their peace of mind.
Qualifications:
Licensure & Certification: Active, valid RN or LPN license in South Carolina, with current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and/or BLS.
Experience: Previous experience working with newborns and infants, especially in-home care, is highly preferred.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of infant care, including breastfeeding support, feeding, diapering, and swaddling.
Familiarity with newborn health concerns such as jaundice, colic, and reflux.
Ability to provide both physical and emotional support to parents, offering reassurance and expert guidance.
Ability to maintain a calm and comforting presence during nighttime hours.
Personal Characteristics:
Compassionate, patient, and attentive to the needs of infants and parents.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Able to work independently and manage time efficiently during night shifts.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and provide professional references.
Ability to commit to night shifts, including weekends, as needed.
